Description:
The Utah Shakespeare Festival is looking for one professional theatre teaching artist to co-lead a weekly Shakespeare and drama class at a local secure-care facility for youth. This position is funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, and will last for one full academic year with the possibility of extension. The class runs every Thursday from 6:30-7:30pm. You will be joining an established program, with the opportunity to deepen and enrich our relationship with the facility and the quality of our educational offerings. The teaching team will consist of a professional teaching artist, USF's Education Director, and two undergraduate teaching apprentices
Qualifications:
Required qualifications:
- Availability on Thursday evenings, 6:30-7:30, from September 7, 2023 - May 30, 2024 excluding holidays
- Extensive experience teaching in workshop and/or classroom settings
- Extensive experience as a theatre practitioner and/or theatre educator
- Experience designing educational programming in informal arts learning contexts
- A willingness to engage in ongoing learning and professional development such as training around trauma-informed pedagogy, inclusivity and accessibility best practices, critically examining the juvenile justice system, etc. Training time will be paid.
- A commitment to weekly lesson-planning, teaching, and assessment
- A commitment to positively mentoring young teaching artists
- A bachelor's degree in a relevant field
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience teaching in juvenile justice settings
- Flexibility and adaptability for working in partnership with the facility
- An advanced degree in a relevant field
